The Face of a Nation

On the 8th day of the 8th month, 2008, 8.00pm having dinner at a local Sichuan restaurant. The restaurant had a large flat screen tv mounted on the far wall to broadcast the opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympics. The entire restaurant was a mess of nerves and excitement and hope. All the chefs stopped work and came and sat with us in the dining room. Crowds formed outside the windows as people everywhere stopped what they were doing (walking, driving, selling street food etc) and took their chance to watch this historic moment for China.... As the final countdown began, I turned around and snapped this photo of the man at the table behind us...
